Description: Kuke is a highly endangered Tibeto-Burman language spoken by roughly 1,300 people in northern Gorkha, Nepal. Kuke, meaning ‘stolen language’, has encapsulated a complex engagement with other ethnic groups and the natural environment through time and space, thus being significant in understanding the typological pattern of the linguistics area. In collaboration with local community members, this documentation project will produce the first audio-visual corpus of Kuke focusing on the linguistic ecology, capturing natural speech and conversational data produced in a range of contexts and genres.
