Title: Images Illustrated Dictionary

Description: In this session are all the images related to the first preliminary version of the illustrated dictionary of the yuhup varieties spoken in Colombia. The data presented here were collected in 2019 in the community of Bocas de Ugá located in the Department of Vaupés, Colombia. The illustrations that accompany the preliminary version of the dictionary (i.e., .jpg files) were made by members of the Bocas de Ugá community. Along with the dictionary, there is a collection of audio files (.wav) that correspond to various lexical entries.Use of the material in the illustrated dictionary is prohibited without the permission of the author. Use of this material is authorized for educational and research purposes only.

Description: This deposit includes the documentation of the Yuhup variety spoken in the community of Bocas de Ugá in Colombia. Yuhup (ISO code: yab) is a Naduhup language spoken by approximately 550 people in Vaupés, Colombia, and the northwest of the state of Amazonas in Brazil (Franky y Mahecha 1997: 3). In Vaupés, approximately 200 Yuhup live in three communities located in different geographic areas along the Apaporis River and its tributaries (Mahecha et. al. 2000: 134). The community of Bocas de Ugá is one of them. The deposit contains a rich documentary corpus of the Yuhup language, which spans a range of discourse types and genres, documented in audio and video. In total, 76 hours and 8 minutes of recordings have been collected. Of these, 59 hours and 23 minutes correspond to video recordings, and 6 hours and 23 minutes have been transcribed and translated. The transcriptions and translations correspond to words and short phrases. It was not possible to transcribe and translate long texts because the Yuhup until now were learning to write, and because the first fieldwork was short. The transcribed and translated material from the first fieldwork was used to create the first preliminary version of the illustrated dictionary. The dictionary currently has 832 lexical entries, including 644 of which are accompanied by an audio file and 256 which have a drawing that young Yuhup made during fieldwork. In the deposit there is also a sociolinguistic survey that was carried out in the community of Bocas de Ugá, a photographic collection showing the route that must be taken to reach the community of Bocas de Ugá, and the daily life of the Yuhup, and elicited data transcribed and translated in Praat. Additional activities were also carried out during the first year of the grant, which contributed to the enrichment of the project. Lorena Orjuela created educational materials that will be used in the literacy process of the Yuhup. They consist of a collection of 5 games with instructions and a collection of CDs with songs sung by the Yuhup elders.
