Summary of the collection
English: This deposit will contain materials collected as a result of an ELDP-funded project focused on initial documentation of Benggoi, an endangered language of eastern Seram island in Maluku province, Indonesia. The project will be conducted between July 2024 and July 2025 and will be the result of collaboration between an American linguist (Nicholas Williams), two Indonesian linguists (Erniati and Dendi Wijaya) and a group of native speakers of Benggoi from Negeri Benggoi and Dreamland Hills in the Eastern Seram Regency (Kabupaten Seram Bagian Timur).

Group represented
English: The group represented in this deposit are the Benggoi or Banggoi, members of the Negeri Banggoi in eastern Seram, Maluku, Indonesia. There are a reported total of 47 families who now live in a mixed community.
Bahasa Indonesia: Orang-orang yang dipresentasikan dalam deposit ini datang dari suku Benggoi atau Banggoi, anggota Negeri Banggoi di Seram bagian timur, Maluku, Indonesia. Diperkirakan bahwa ada sekitar 47 kepala keluarga yang masih menggunakan Bahasa Banggoi, walaupun kini tinggal di komunitas yang campur dengan penduduk dari e
tnis-etnis lain.
Language information
The language has been referred to as Benggoi and Banggoi. It is apparently related to neighboring languages including Seti, Hote, and Salas. Due to lack of documentation of these languages, the precise relationships are still unknown. There are reportedly around 47 families that still speak Banggoi.
Collection history
Data collection began in July 2024 as part of the ELDP project ‘Initial documentation of Benggoi of eastern Seram island’ (SG1063).
