Summary of the collection
English: Makaguaje is a Western Tukano language, spoken in the department of Caquetá, in the Colombian Amazonian foothills. This language has one last speaker, Angelica Piaguaje.
This collection was carried out with the active participation of the members of the two communities and includes digital material of transcriptions, translations and analysis of audiovisual recordings of different genres such as linguistic corpus, conversations, songs, stories and rituals.
Español: Makaguaje es una lengua tukano occidental, hablada en el departamento del Caquetá, en el piedemonte amazonico colombiano. Esta lengua es hablada por por una ultima hablante, Angelica Piaguaje.
Esta colección se llevó a cabo con la participación activa de los miembros de las dos comunidades y cuenta con un material digital de transcripciones, traducciones y análisis de grabaciones audiovisuales de diferentes géneros como corpus lingüísticos, conversaciones, cantos, historias y rituales.
Group represented
English: The Makaguaje community (people from the center of the jungle) inhabitants of the Teófila Arenosa community in the municipality of Solano Caquetá, Colombia, counts 78 people according to the last national census (DANE, 2021). All the inhabitants of this community are speakers of the Korebaju language, a western Tukano language. Astonishingly, this community is home to the last speaker of the Makaguaje language, also of the Western Tukano family. Angelica Piaguaje, a 66 year old woman that is currently teaching Makaguaje to her community, thus beginning a process of revitalization of her own language and culture. This speaker also speaks Korebaju and Spanish.
Español: La comunidad Makaguaje (gente del centro de la selva) habitantes de la comunidad Teófila Arenosa en el municipio de Solano Caquetá, Colombia, cuenta con 78 personas según el último censo nacional (DANE,2021). Todos los habitantes de esta comunidad son hablantes de la lengua korebaju, una lengua tukano occidental. Sin embargo, esta comunidad cuenta con la ultima hablante de la lengua makaguaje, también perteneciente a la familia tukano occidental. Angelica Piaguaje, una mujer de 66 años quien en este momento y de manera autónoma enseña el makaguaje a su comunidad, comenzando así un proceso de revitalización de su lengua y su cultura. Esta hablante habla igualmente el korebaju y el español.
Collection contents
English: This collection contains 6 hours of recordings where you can find songs, dances, clan history, rituals and a day of makaguaje teaching. Attached to this, there are 2.5 hours of audiovisual recordings of a list of 1000 cognates.
Seven hours of recording and annotation will be part of this collection. Each annotation consists of its orthographic transcription in Korebaju, plus its translation into Spanish. In addition, the list of words will have a phonetic transcription, accompanied by its corresponding gloss.
Español: Esta colección contiene 6 horas de grabación donde se podrán encontrar cantos, danzas, historia clanil, rituales y una jornada de enseñanza makaguaje. Adjunto a esto, se encuentran 2,5 horas de grabación audiovisual de una lista de 1000 cognados.
Siete horas de grabación y anotación serán parte de esta colección. Cada anotación consta de su transcripción ortográfica en korebaju, más su traducción al español. En adición la lista de palabras poseerá una transcripción fonética, acompañado de su glosa correspondiente.

English: Any use of the data contained in this collection should cite the main investigator Jenifer Vega Rodriguez, as well as the Makaguaje community as active contributors of this investigation. In addition, the Endangered Languages Documentation Program (ELDP) and the International Phonetic Association (IPA) should be mentioned as funders of this project, as well as the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) that funds Ms. Vega Rodriguez’s doctoral contract.
When using parts of the corpora from this collection, the persons who participated in the recording and its subsequent annotation, as well as all the persons who appear in each recording, must be cited. The same applies to every photograph, note or other type of collaboration present in the data.
Any use of the documentation related to the linguistic elicitation corpus (1,000 cognates) must respect the copyrights of the linguist Jenifer Vega Rodriguez who recorded, transcribed, segmented and glossed each of the words. Furthermore, the speakers who appear in each of the recordings must also be cited. Finally, linguist Dr. Thiago Costa Chacon should be cited as the creator of the list of 1,000 cognates for the Tukanoan languages.
