Summary of the collection

English: Rongga is a marginalized small language of south-central Flores, Indonesia This three-year documentation project, based at the Australian National University, aims to set up a comprehensive archive of the Rongga language (Austronesian, Flores Island, Indonesia, around 3000 speakers). A variety of data has been collected as part of the archive. This includes digitised audio and visual recordings, ethnographic notes based on interviews and observations, as well as anthropological or linguistic descriptions.

The project aims to set up a comprehensive archive of the Rongga language and culture as a resource tool containing the core data and references on which further studies, analyses, and practical language-community programs may be based. The three-year project (2004-2006) has produced a variety of data as part of the archive. It includes audio and visual recordings, (ethnographic) notes based on interviews and observations, as well as anthropological or linguistic descriptions. At the conclusion of the project, a grammar and a basic dictionary have been already completed.

Bahasa Indonesia: Proyek penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan dan membangun materi untuk arsip bahasa dan budaya Rongga, yang bisa dipakai sebagai alat dan rujukan untuk studi dan analisis lanjutan secara akademis dan juga diharapkan bisa dipakai untuk keperluan praktis masyarakat tutur lokal. Proyek dokumentasi yang berlangsung selama tiga tahun ini (2004-2006) telah menghasilkan berbagai jenis data bahasa. Diantaranya, rekaman audio dan video, catatan etnografi berdasarkan interview dan obvervasi, dan deskripsi linguistis dan antropologis. Saat proyek berakhir, buku tatabahasa dan kamus juga telah diselesaikan.

Rongga is one of several small, undocumented Austronesian languages clustered in the eastern part of the Manggarai regency, between Manggarai and Ngadha, Flores island, Indonesia. It is spoken by around 4000 speakers, mainly in the villages of Tanarata, Bamo, and Watunggene, Kota Komba sub-district, in the regency of West Flores or Manggarai.Many Rongga speakers are often multilingual, and most speak Indonesian in addition to their native language. Indonesian, variety of the Malay language, is the national language of Indonesia, used almost in all domains in everyday life across the archipelago. It belongs to the western Malayo-Polinesian group of the Austronesian Family. The population of Indonesia now is over 200 million. According to Sneddon (2003: 200), when the population was 157 million in 1990, Indonesian was spoken by 131 million people (83% of the population).

Bahasa Indonesia: Rongga adalah salah satu bahasa kecil yang lokasinya di Manggarai timur, di perbatasan dengan Ngadha, Flores. Jumlah penutur Rongga sekitar 5000 orang, tersebar di tiga desa (Tanarata, Bamo, dan Watunggene), kecamatan Kota Komba, kabupaten Manggarai.
Bahasa Indonesia adalah bahasa Nasional Indonesia, yang dipergunakan dalam semua bidang kehidupan sehari-hari di seluruh nusantara. Bahasa Indonesia tergolong kelompok Malayo-Polinesia barat dalam keluarga Austronesia. Jumlah penduduk Indonesia lebih dari 200 juta. Menurut Sneddon (2003:200), ketika populasi Indonesia 157 juta, bahasa Indonesia dipakai ileh sekitar 131 juta orang (83% dari jumlah penduduk).
